I have a proposal. Why not turn tradition on its head and do something completely crazy and uncalled for. Add something to your bucket list that will make you different from everyone else. Throw a party, at some point in your later middle ages or early senior years. Rent a banquet hall and invite EVERYONE you know. Call it a "Going Away Party" and tell your guests that they can bring friends. Party like you'll never party again. Take lots of pictures; dance up a storm, and don't stop till it's 6 in the mornin'. Enjoy life.
no?

ot was written about a real life elderly couple who was invited to a family reunion out in the American Midwest (middle of nowhere). Their sons offered to pick them up and drive them, since one of them had just gotten out of brain surgery and the other had Alzeimer's and they were afraid the drive would have been a bit too long for them. The day came and the couple resisted the offers, opting to drive themselves to the party. They never arrived at the destination. Days went by and there was no sign of the couple. It made the news, and this band (fastball) wrote this song as a romanticized version of this couple's disappearance.
After about a week the couple was found. They had driven their car off a cliff a few days' drive away from where they were supposed to be. Unfortunately they passed away in the tragic accident.
Still, despite the sad ending, something about it is eerily appealing though.
Here's the youtube to this song (one of the best of all time if you ask me):

Thanks for drawing this connection Sean. It works well! :)

don't forget weddings my friend.
But, I like your style. I think there is a song out there called "The Way" by I forget who, but the whole idea is the parents/grandparents take off before they grow old and die so their family doesn't spend time worrying about them in old age.
Something we all need to think about as we grow old I guess
